The Hext Family Foundation was established in March of 1998 for the
purpose of returning a portion of the blessings realized by this family.
Bill Hext, son of Cecil and Mildred Hext, was born in Pampa, Texas in 1939. Jane
Hext, daughter of B.B. and Mary Murrell was born in Crane, Texas in 1940. The couple married in 1959. After spending the early years of their lives in Odessa, they moved to Fort Stockton in 1961. At the time, Bill was working for an oilfield supply company and was with them until 1966. The Hexts returned to Odessa that same year and Bill continued his
career with an oilfield tool company. He remained with them until he made the decision in 1981 to form a new company with a long-time friend and associate B.D. Berryhill. The name of the new business was P.E.P.
(Petroleum Expendable Products). PEP prospered over the years and in
1997 the decision was made to sell. During that same year, the choice
was made to start the Foundation and to launch Heritage FLP, a family
business.
Several factors shaped their lives over the years including family. Two daughters were born to Bill and Jane. They are Melinda Spencer and Susan Palmer. Melinda is married to Tim Spencer and has 3 children, Benjamin, Andrew, and Rachael. Susan is married to Mark Palmer with two sons, Preston and Samuel.
In 1991, Bill discovered that he had Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. After
undergoing a series of treatments over a period of 10 years, Bill
succumbed to cancer June 20, 2001. Cancer research is one of three areas
of focus for the foundation.
It is the hope of the Board of Directors that the Foundation will be a source of support for organizations that improve people's lives and share Christian values with our world.
